Colors knots and cords - a journey in witchcraft

Cord Colors and Progression in the Craft

The journey in witchcraft is  marked by the colors of one's cord, representing levels of knowledge, understanding, and power attained. This traditional system uses three primary colors to mark the progression of a witch's development.

White Cord

  • Marks the beginning of the path
  • Represents new beginnings and openness
  • Symbol of the initial dedication
  • First level of learning and practice
  • Foundation of magical knowledge

Green Cord

  • Second level of achievement
  • Indicates growth in practical skills
  • Deeper understanding of the craft
  • Growing connection to natural magic
  • Development of personal practice

Purple Cord

  • Advanced level of practice
  • Mastery of basic principles
  • Deeper magical understanding
  • Teaching capabilities
  • Spiritual maturity

The Nine Knots

Once a practitioner has achieved all three levels, marked by progressing through the white, green, and purple cords, they create their nine knots. This significant milestone represents:

  • Complete basic training
  • Understanding of fundamental principles
  • Mastery of essential skills
  • Readiness for advanced work

The creation of the nine knots becomes not just a spell working, but a recognition of achievement and capability. Each knot tied represents both the accumulated knowledge and the authority to work more complex magic. The cord with nine knots becomes both a tool of power and a symbol of accomplishment in the craft.

This system provides a clear path of progression while ensuring that practitioners develop the necessary skills and understanding before advancing to more complex magical workings.
